SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — Seventeen officers from the Gender Focal Team and Gender Focal Point in the Gender Mainstreaming session 2021/2022 receive their appointment letter from Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, earlier today.
The Gender Mainstreaming exercise, now in its second year of implementation, involves the education portfolio under the Menteri Besar’s purview, local council portfolio under state executive councillor Ng Sze Han, and community welfare portfolio under state executive councillor V Ganabatirau.
Amirudin handed the appointment letter at the Selangor State Secretariat Building foyer here, accompanied by state health executive councillor Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud, and Wanita Berdaya Selangor chief executive Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki.
Also present at the event was state housing and urban wellbeing executive councillor Rodziah Ismail, and the Menteri Besar’s political secretary Juwairiya Zulkifli.
Selangor is the first state in Malaysia to implement gender mainstreaming, as an effort to promote women’s right and address discrimination towards the group.
Some RM1.8 million has been allocated to intensify the gender mainstreaming programme, in order to encourage Selangorian women to play active roles in the state’s development.
The state government has outlined clear steps to achieve gender equality through the implementation of inclusive policies, addressing their needs, and making a positive impact on these groups.
