SHAH ALAM, Nov 13 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has offered his condolences to the family of the Standard One student, who was killed after being run over by a school van at Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi in Sepang yesterday.

“Condolences to the family. May her soul be blessed and placed among the faithful,” he said on Twitter today.

Selangor Investigation Department and Traffic Enforcement chief Supt Azman Shari’at said the incident occurred at 12.10pm, when the victim had just been dropped off at a transit centre after being picked up at a nearby school.

Preliminary investigations discovered the van driver, a 31-year old woman, was driving ahead without realising she had collided with the victim, who was crossing in front of the vehicle.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transportation Act 1987, for the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

If found guilty, the penalty is imprisonment between five to 10 years, and a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000.
