Monsoon changes brings about flooding risks in Selangor

SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 — Residents of Selangor are advised to prepare for flash floods and landslides, throughout the Northeast Monsoon period from this month until March 2022.

The state Disaster Management Unit also reminded the public to comply with instructions from safety authorities and local authorities from time to time.

“The state government instructs all parties involve to make early preparations to face flooding, flash floods, landslides, and others,” it said in a statement today.

The unit also made long-term monitoring on the rainfall by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (Selangor) which involves the state’s districts.

The average rain for November is expected to be between 250mm to 370mm. For December it is expected to be between 200mm to 300mm, for January 2022 between 150mm to 230mm, for February 2022 between 140mm to 210mm, and for March between 200mm to 300mm.

Asides from Selangor, heavy rainfall is expected to occur in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Johor, starting this month until January 2022. For Sarawak and Sabah it is expected in early January and February 2022.
