PPAS director propose district-level book fairs by 2022

SHAH ALAM, Nov 13 — The Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) has suggested book fairs be held in each of the state’s nine districts, starting next year.

Its director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad said doing so would provide an opportunity to society, enabling them to participate in book fairs near their areas.

“God willing, the Selangor Book Fair we will primarily implement on December each year, while from January to October we will travel to each district to organise book fairs on the district level.

“Indeed, the state government has provided a large budget for us each year to upgrade several libraries in each district, and now is the best time to promote it by organising book fairs,” she told SelangorKini.

Mastura added that several libraries in each district are currently being upgraded, and are expected to be fully completed by next year.

“Once all those libraries are completed, we will organise district-level book fairs, so that state residents do not have to come to Shah Alam for one, in addition to encouraging the interest in reading,” she said.

This year’s Selangor Book Fair will be held at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) from December 2 to December 12, starting at 10am until 9pm. Saturdays and Sundays will see the opening hours extended to 10pm.

The fair will also be offering lucky draw prizes worth RM50,000 in total, with buyers potentially bringing home RM500 in cash every day.

A number of interesting activities will also be held, including an e-sports competition, honing one’s creativity using Lego, how to use drones, writing seminars, parenting seminars, and speech therapy for autistic or slow-speech children.
