Selangor e-wallet to feature all state initiatives

By Alang Bendahara

SHAH ALAM, Nov 27 — Selangor has established a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to undertake its aim to introduce an app linking all the state’s financial, services, and social initiatives.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this is in line with the global trend of creating a cashless community.

“The SPV — Syarikat Selangor E-Wallet Sdn Bhd — will form a joint venture with an existing e-wallet company complete with an e-money licence, a money lending licence issued by both Bank Negara and the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) as well as an e-wallet size of RM10,000.

“Towards creating a cashless community, Selangor will launch the e-wallet service in early 2022 which will be implemented through the SELangkah application which has a ‘captive market’ as a Super App,” he said during the tabling of the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here, yesterday.

He said the Selangor E-Wallet Super App would bring together all business services of the Selangor government, local authorities, statutory bodies and state subsidiaries that have been regulated by Cepat (Citizen E-Payment), which is owned by Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU).

Amirudin added that it would also include social welfare services provided to the people and create an online marketplace to digitalise small and medium enterprises (SME) and micro-SME businesses in Selangor.

“This will enable aid to recipients of Iltizam Selangor Penyayang programmes such as Bingkas, Iltizam Selangor Sihat, Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) from various agencies and different state government-linked companies (GLCs) such as Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) and Selgate Corporation to be channelled through the application.

“Activities such as payment of taxes to local authorities and cashless parking payment can also be implemented through this platform,” he said.

Amirudin said this effort would simplify matters and save time for those in dire need of state government assistance and increase the efficiency of services between the government, the people, and small and medium industries — all in one digital wallet.
