SHAH ALAM, Nov 23 — The flash floods that caused water to rise as high as 1.5 metres in Lembah Jaya, Ampang last night has waned after three hours, says the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department.

Its director Norazam Khamis said flood water started to surge from 7pm following heavy rain lasting for almost three hours in the Klang Valley.

“The floods receded at 11pm and the affected victims who were placed at the relief centres were allowed to go home.

“Yesterday’s incident is among the worst floods to ever happen in the area.

“Other than heavy rains, the drainage system is also one of the factors causing the flash floods,” he said when contacted, today.

Norazam said the firemen along with the state’s agencies have been actively cleaning the affected houses as well as the surrounding areas.

Last night, several areas in Ampang, Hulu Langat and Gombak were hit by flash floods, however, the situation was under control.

Following the incident, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari informed that the local councils, KDEB Waste Management and the constituency’s service centre will assist in terms of emergency and relocation.

Apart from that, he said Team Selangor and Selangor Volunteer (Serve) members will also help in the cleaning process.
