#Selangor2022 Budget: Hopes for increased funds for special needs children

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — The Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) hopes the allocation to empower special needs children in the state would be increased in the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022).

Its Anak Istimewa Selangor (Anis) department head Danial Al-Rahid Haron said the additional funding would cover the existing programmes including the Anis special aid, Didik Anis, early intervention programmes and development seminars.

He said the RM3 million allocation provided by the state government in the past three years is not sufficient to cater to the growing demands from the group.

“We are aware of the current financial position of the state government. However, we feel that the allocation should be increased to fulfil the aspirations of the special needs group.

“We were not able to process half of the applications that we have received (for this year) and we hope it can be resolved with an increased allocation next year,” he said when contacted by SelangorKini today.

Danial said that if full attention is not given to special needs children, it may hamper the learning ecosystem for those involved.

“The management cost for these children is higher than normal children as they need to be provided with special meals and undergo therapy, until they reach six years old before they can continue to go to normal school,” he said.

The #Selangor2022 Budget is scheduled to be tabled by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari on November 26.

It will be aired live on Facebook Media Selangor (facebook.com/MediaSelangor).
