Sidec achieves value creation of RM250 mln via various programmes in 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 — The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) has achieved a notable milestone with value creation of RM250 million and impacted 230,000 participants through various programmes in 2021.

Chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said it has also played a crucial role in accelerating Selangor’s digitalisation, especially among e-commerce merchants, startups, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“The Selangor state government through Sidec has organised four E-Bazar campaigns since the pandemic broke out, namely E-Bazar Raya 2020, E-Bazar 11.11 Mega Sales, E-Bazar CNY 2021, and E-Bazar Raya 2021,” he said in a welcoming speech at the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) 2021 here, today.

With an overall investment of RM7 million in vouchers by the state government, Yong said the four campaigns had generated RM144.7 million in direct sales, creating a ripple effect of RM2.95 billion to the state’s economy.

He said that a total of 294,119 sellers, including 74,837 new sellers, have benefitted from the campaigns.

Besides the E-Bazar campaign, Yong said the state government continues to uplift SMEs by launching the Selangor SME Digitalisation Matching Grant in April 2021 during the movement control order.

“From the total of 1,500 Selangor SMEs that applied for the grant, 1,048 SMEs qualified for it.

“A total of RM5 million has been channelled to cover five areas of digitalisation, namely cloud accounting, e-payment system, human resource management and payroll, digital marketing, and e-commerce system,” he said.

Yong encourages all SMEs and startups that want to scale their business to pay attention to the Carbon Neutral Target, which will also help them achieve the sustainable development goal (SDG).

The SDEC 2021 is in conjunction with the fifth Selangor International Business Summit 2021 (SIBS 2021) from November 18 until 21.

The two-day hybrid convention features 45 speakers who delve into various topics such as fintech, digital marketing, and SME digitalisation.
