63 water tankers deployed to affected areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat, KL

SHAH ALAM, Dec 19 — A total of 63 water tankers is being mobilised in stages to the 542 affected areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat and Kuala Lumpur regions that were hit by unscheduled water cuts following heavy rains in the Klang Valley.

Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor) in a statement today said the deployment was done with priority given to critical premises.

“Air Selangor seeks consumers’ cooperation to practise social distancing and wear face masks while collecting the water supply from the water tankers,” said its corporate communication head Elina Baseri.

Earlier today, Air Selangor has announced an unscheduled water supply disruption to the three regions due to the full and partial shutdown of four of its Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

Air Selangor also gave an update on the affected WTPs.

“Operations at the Cheras Batu 11 WTP have not yet started due to water overflow to the pump house, while for Sg Langat WTP the water supply production rate has been reduced due to high water turbidity and water overflow to the pump house.

“As for Langat 2 WTP, the emergency electricity closure at the Semantan intake is still being implemented. While the Semenyih 2 WTP was forced to shut down due to the increasing water level that has entered the raw water pump house,” said Elina.

She also explained the reason Air Selangor could not yet give confirmation on the expected time for the full resumption of operation at the affected WTPs.

“It is crucial for Air Selangor to ensure that all equipment at the water treatment plants are in good condition and can be operated without endangering the safety of Air Selangor’s onsite staff, especially those involving electricity,” said Elina.
