After pandemic MCO setbacks, Bandar Saujana Putra flyover to be completed in May next year

SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — Construction work on the Bandar Saujana Putra flyover that was disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic is expected to be completed on May 31 next year, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the flyover was supposed to be completed by September but was delayed due to the need to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the federal government.

“Among the causes of the delays in the completion of the flyover in Bandar Saujana Putra was due to the movement control order (MCO), recovery MCO, and conditional MCO enforced by the government during the pandemic.

“Contractors found it difficult to carry out work on-site as they had to comply with the SOPs. This included getting a permission letter to operate from the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti)
“Contractors must also comply with the permitted workforce capacity, and ensure their workers have completed two doses of vaccination,” he said.

Amirudin was responding to a query from Banting assemblyman Lau Weng San on the construction status of the flyover that started in 2019, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session here today.

He said issues such as the increase in raw material prices and the shortage of building materials due to factories closing during the MCO, and quarantine of workers infected by Covid-19 also contributed to the delay.

Amirudin added the bored pile method was also found to be unsuitable due to the soil conditions and was changed to the spun pile method, which also delayed the completion schedule.

“After examining all the delaying factors, Seribu Baiduri Sdn Bhd as recommended by the consultant has approved the extension of time (EOT) No.1, which is for 243 days.

“The (EOT No.1) latest completion date is expected on May 31, 2022,” he said.

On April 12, 2019, Amirudin announced a RM60 million allocation to build a new flyover to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The project will benefit 65,000 nearby residents and users of the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) and the North-South Expressway Central Link (Elite) coming to and from Bandar Saujana Putra.
