Air Selangor: Another 70 areas in Hulu Langat face water cuts

SHAH ALAM, Dec 19 — Another 70 areas in the Hulu Langat region will face unscheduled water cuts following the increase in the water level that had entered the raw water pump house.

Pengurusan Air Selangor (Air Selangor) in a statement today said the incident had forced the shutdown of operation at the Semenyih 2 Water Treatment Plant (WTP).

“The expected time for Semenyih 2 WTP to resume its full operation could not be ascertained at this time,” said Air Selangor in a statement on Facebook today.

Air Selangor added that due to complications from the closure of most main roads due to the floods, it would mobilise its water tankers in stages to the affected areas and critical premises during the unscheduled water cuts.

Earlier today, Air Selangor announced that 472 areas in Petaling, Hulu Langat and Kuala Lumpur regions, will face unscheduled water cuts following the rise of river water that led to floods.

It said the incident had forced the suspension of operation at two of its Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and reduced the operational capacity of another.

‘The Langat 2 WTP experienced an emergency power outage at the Semantan intake which resulted in the absence of water supply at the plant.

“The Cheras Batu 11 WTP had to be shut down due to floods. While at the Sg Langat WTP, the increase in water turbidity level resulted in it only being able to produce 40 per cent of its daily production,” said Air Selangor in a statement on Facebook today.

Air Selangor also said they are currently unable to provide an estimation of when the three WTPs will be fully operational again.
