SHAH ALAM, Dec 29 — The state government has started to distribute the RM1,000 cash aid under the Selangor Bangkit programme to families affected by the recent floods, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the distribution started in the Petaling district yesterday and will be expanded in stages to other affected districts today.

Amirudin said some 11,194 families involving over 47,000 people who stayed at the temporary relief centres (PPS) have been confirmed to receive the aid.

“After we have distributed the aid, we will identify those who did not relocate to the PPS during the flooding incident and include their names in the recipient’s list as well.

“For flood victims whose houses were not damaged or submerged because of its high location — situated on the third or fourth floor of an apartment —  but suffered losses due to destroyed belongings on the ground, they also will be included in the category.

“I estimated around 30,000 families will benefit from the Selangor Bangkit initiative based on the data that we have identified,” he said on the HotFM radio channel during the ‘Geng Pagi Hot’ segment with DJs AG and Fara Fauzana this morning.

The Menteri Besar added apart from the state government’s aid, the people in Selangor who were affected by the flooding will also receive another RM1,000 cash ad from the Federal government and RM600 from Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).

“However, for the donation from LZS, only Muslim is eligible as the money derives from zakat contribution programme,” he said.

On December 21, the Selangor government allocated RM100 million in funds under the Selangor Bangkit initiative, following the flood incident two weeks ago.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also covers cash aid of RM10,000 to the families of flood victims who perished in the incident.

The RM1,000 cash aid also will be distributed to the heads of families to help restore their homes and cover damages.
