SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — The families of those who perished in the recent Selangor flooding disaster will be given RM10,000 each as compensation, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Similarly households who were affected by the floods will receive RM1,000 each in compensation.
He also assured that each affected household will be given financial assistance, regardless of whether they have registered with the temporary relief centres (PPS) or if they chose to remain with their homes during the incident.
“The compensation is part of the ‘Ikhtiar Selangor Bangkit’ initiative, where a total of RM100 million allocation has been set aside by the state government.
“The aid will be given to each family who were affected by the disaster. This means, in Selangor, flood victims will get at least RM2,000, as they will get another RM1,000 from the Federal government, to help and ease the cleaning and recovery process.
“The state government has also agreed to waive the water bill fees for one month for consumers affected by the incident,” Amirudin said during a special press conference regarding the current floods situation in Selangor, at the State Secretariat Building earlier today.
He added the state government will also waive the repayment of loans taken under Yayasan Hijrah Selangor (Hijrah) for a two-month period, to help affected entrepreneurs.
“The deferment of payment aims to ease the burden of entrepreneurs, at a cost of RM15 million,” he said.
On December 18, several districts in Selangor were stricken by heavy flooding, which has claimed 17 lives as of today.
Over 30,000 people have been evacuated and transferred to 203 temporary relief centres, with the number expected to rise as more search and rescue operations are being conducted.
