Hulu Langat gets early aid under Selangor Bangkit

HULU LANGAT, Dec 23 — The Hulu Langat constituency has received RM2 million from the Selangor Bangkit initiative, to restore a large portion of its area which has been affected by the floods.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the funds can be used starting tomorrow, and any additional necessities can be brought to the state special committee.

“This is the early stage (of contributions) as there are many victims here, with a severe impact. All throughout the way we have seen congestions, damages, and collapses that are seen nowhere else,” he said, after the flood briefing at the temporary relief centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai during his field trip to Hulu Langat earlier today.

Among the places Amirudin visited include Sungai Layang and Sungai Lui, as well as attending a briefing by a Public Works Department representative on the landslide at Genting Peras.

On Tuesday (December 21) the state government allocated RM100 million via Ikhtiar Selangor Bangkit, to be used for Selangor following the flooding that engulfed the state from December 17 to December 19.

The Menteri Besar said RM80 million has been set aside to rebuild infrastructure, with the remainder to be used for cleaning operations.

He also announced RM10,000 would be given to the families of flood victims who perished, and RM1,000 to each head of household living in the affected areas.

The extraordinary rain during the two days was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.

To this, all state government assets and Federal agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department, the police, and the army, were mobilised to evacuate victims to safe locations, as well as move necessary goods.
