KDEBWM to focus efforts on post-flood cleanup

SHAH ALAM, Dec 21 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will mobilise nearly all of its assets and manpower for the post-flood cleanup operation in the flooded areas of Klang, Shah Alam, Kajang, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Sepang, and Kuala Langat.

In a joint statement by State Committee on Post-Flood Cleanup chairman Ng Sze Han and KDEBWM director Ramli Mohd Tahir, the solid waste collection operator said it aims to complete the operation by December 24, despite being given a one-month period by the state government.

“KDEBWM will mobilise more than 70 per cent or 832 units of its assets including Armroll/RORO lorries to do bulk cleaning, and compactor lorries for domestic collection in affected areas.

“Other assets including the High-Pressure Water Jetter will also be used if necessary, with an urgent need for it.

“KDEBWM will also mobilise nearly 2,000 personnel and all operations teams to focus on completing the bulk collection in affected areas,” said the statement.

It hopes the action plan outlined will be able to help resolve the issue of cleaning up solid waste collection, faced by the residents of Selangor who were affected by this flood disaster.

KDEBWM added the collection schedule. Particularly for bulk collection in certain areas in the state, will be slightly delayed as its operations will focus mainly on the flood-affected areas.

“To launch the collection in the unaffected areas, we advise and request residents to place domestic waste in bins or rubbish bins while bulk rubbish in front of the house or in the Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) bins provided,” it said.

KDEBWM also said that both it and the state government are currently working to resolve delays in solid waste collection in several locations, as some roads leading to landfills remain closed due to the floods.

Any enquiries can be made at KDEBWM’s Local Complaints Center at 019-375 9592 and 019-375 3980, or via Whatsapp at019-274 2824.
