MB hopeful ECRL southern alignment kept in view by Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 — The Selangor government hopes its federal counterpart will keep their request in view for the East Coast Rail Link’s (ECRL) southern alignment to be developed in the future.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said although it is not a prerequisite of the state government’s support for the northern alignment, they would be grateful if Putrajaya could refine certain components.

“The state government intends to create a win-win situation in the issue of the ECRL alignment in Section C. We would be pleased if the federal government considers the continuation of the ECRL project in the southern alignment for the future development plan,” he said.

Amirudin said this during a press conference on the ECRL Project and ECRL Section C (Northern Line) Document Submission Ceremony between MRL and China Communications Construction Company Ltd (CCCC) yesterday.

Similarly, Amirudin hopes the Federal government can study the decision to develop the area around Carey Island, which has great potential as a logistics hub in Selangor.

“The state government hopes a joint development committee on Carey Island can also be established, so the desire to make the location the largest logistics hub can be realised.

“This is also to strengthen the federal further, and the state governments’ plan in ensuring the existing port network remains a port of attraction for the world,” he said.

Apart from that, Amirudin hopes Putrajaya considers the connectivity of the rail network in the Klang Valley and Selangor by taking into account the proposed LRT line service between Putra Heights and Selangor Business Capital in Cyberjaya.

The line service is currently being planned under the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

“We hope the implementation of the ECRL project can also be monitored in an integrated manner by a Special Committee on the Implementation of the Selangor ECRL Northern Alignment Project, consisting of the state and federal governments,” he said.

Yesterday, Selangor agreed to accept the proposed ECRL northern alignment and approved the Section C alignment involving Mentakab to Gombak and Gombak-Serendah-Port Klang.

Last October, Amirudin reiterated Selangor’s stance of choosing the southern alignment for the ECRL project involving Hulu Langat, Sepang, and West Port.
