SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — The Data Internet Selangor initiative has provided free Internet assistance for 12 months to approximately 9,519 students under the Tuisyen Rakyat Selangor (PTRS) programme, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the assistance to both students and traders via the initiative began in August.
“The state government assists students and traders by providing Internet data. Up to 70,000 individuals are expected to benefit from the RM17 million allocation,” Amirudin said.
He was responding to a query by Batang Kali assemblyman Harumaini Omar, on whether the state government will implement the 1 Family, 1 Laptop Scheme as how the Federal government is doing, during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly earlier today.
Amirudin added that Selangor introduced the Selangor Basic Technology Loan Scheme (Sepintas) in the recent 2022 Selangor Budget, to aid students without devices of their own.
“The recovery programme for computers or laptops acquired from individuals or companies that no longer want to use them, will be allocated RM1 million, with the units provided to students.
“The activities will be maintained by two units, which is the Selangor Public Library Corporation and (state telecommuncations provider) SmartSel,” he said.
