No structures permitted in permanent forest reserve — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — Any illegal structures or unauthorised plants found in the permanent forest reserve area will be demolished, according to the law.

State executive councillor for tourism, environment, green technology and Orang Asli affair Hee Loy Sian said no structures are allowed in the permanent forest reserve area without prior permission from state authorities.

This is in accordance with Section 32 of the Enactment (Adoption) Selangor State Forestry Act 1985 (Amendment 2018).

“Perthe Act, any person found guilty of an offence under this section can be fined no more than RM100,000. imprisonment for no less than six months and not exceeding 10 years, or both,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly today.

Hee was responding to a query from Kuala Kubu Baharu assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, on the actions taken by the state government pertaining to illegal structures issues in the permanent reserve forest area.

Commenting further, the councillor said the Selangor Forestry Department has taken several actions to resolve the matter, including issuing notifications to vacate the area within a given timeframe.

“Additionally, should the occupants fail to vacate the area, stern action will be taken which include conducting an operation to demolish the illegal structures.

“The state government will also approproiately rehabilitate the affected area, including restoring the soil structure, repairing irrigation systems, as well as planting forest trees,” he added.
