Over 2,800 tonnes post-flood waste collected in a day — MB

SHAH ALAM, Dec 25 — A total of 2,857 tonnes of post-flood garbage and waste have been cleaned up and collected by the KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) as of yesterday.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that more large bins and machinery will be added to ensure a smooth cleanup process.

“For today alone, some 2,857 tonnes of garbage and wastes due to the flooding have been cleared. We will also add more Roll-on-Roll-off (Roro) bins and backhoes for the cleanup process,” he said on Twitter yesterday.

Since last Sunday, KDEBWM has begun the cleaning process in flood-stricken areas in several districts throughout Selangor in stages, which is expected to be completed in a week.

Several local councils from other states have also mobilised their workforce to Selangor aside from the volunteers who have also help to speed-up the cleanup process.

The extraordinary rain from December 17 to 19 was double the previous highest rainfall average of 180mm, resulting in many places in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
