PwC Malaysia: Trust more critical in business amid pandemic

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 — Trust has become more critical in business in times of crisis, said PwC Malaysia.

Managing partner, Soo Hoo Khoon Yean said trust is a powerful currency in business, enabling them to create real value for stakeholders and delivering sustained outcomes that leave a positive impact on society.

“In an environment where anxiety and misinformation are certainly prevalent, trust can allay fears in this unprecedented minds.

“The responsibility of being trustworthy, weighs heavier and there is no doubt about that,” he said in his speech at the virtually held PwC Malaysia Building Trust Awards 2021, today.

Soo said businesses are not only required to deliver results and fulfil obligations to address the most pressing issues such as governance and the social environment but they are also expected to adapt, reevaluating how they do things in response to unpredictable shocks.

“I would like to point out that in the dark lies the opportunity for light to shine brighter and shine on the companies in Malaysia as they work at building trust, in spite of a road paved with adversities.

“We know this because we assess a total of 100 companies pursuant to our award methodology,” he noted.

Winners of the PwC Malaysia Building Trust Awards 2021 include Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) under the FBM KLCI category and Sime Darby Property Bhd under the FBM Mid 70 Index category.

Second and third place of the FBM KCLI category went to Sime Darby Bhd and Axiata Bhd, respectively, while KPJ Healthcare Bhd and Yinson Holdings Bhd shared the second spot of the FBM Mid 70 Index category.

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) clinched PwC Malaysia’s Trust Analytics Framework and the Building Trust Public Poll (FBM KLCI), while Telekom Malaysia (FBM KLCI) and Alliance Bank (FBM Mid 70 Index) were named PwC Malaysia-Asia School of Business’ Trust and Leadership Survey winners.
