Sarawak polls: Over 10,000 expected to cast early ballots tomorrow

KUCHING, Dec 13 — A total of 10,458 police personnel and members of the General Operations Force (GOF) as well as their spouses will be involved in the early voting process for the 12th Sarawak state election tomorrow (Dec 14), said state deputy police commissioner DCP Datuk Mancha Ata.

He said a total of 85 early polling centres with 111 polling streams will be opened from 7.30 am to 5 pm with 5,522 police officers and personnel will be on duty to control security and ensure the early voting process runs smoothly tomorrow.

“Early polling centres include halls at the contingent police headquarters (IPK) and district headquarters (IPD), resource centres, recreation rooms, meeting rooms and schools,” he said in a statement today.

For postal voters, he said, the total number of applications from the police force was 1,200 with 705 having been approved by the Election Commission (EC).

Mancha said the police had issued a total of six compound notices, worth RM31,000, to those violating the standard operating procedures set for the state election.

He added that a total of 39 investigation papers have been opened by the police from Nov 30 until yesterday. while a total of 1,837 applications for police permits have been received and approved to candidates and parties contesting statewide.
