Selangor Fire Dept sets up tents for second wave of Hulu Langat flooding

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 — The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department has set up five tents to facilitate flood relief efforts at Hulu Langat, in preparation for a second wave of flooding in the area.

Its director Norazam Khamis said the department set up the tents at IKTBN Dusun Tua, Penghulu Batu 14 office, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Serai, Sungai Lui community hall and Nanding Agro Night Market.

He said the department has also placed rescue boats on standby as an initial preparatory step.

“We are worried if the floods in Hulu Langat recur. Therefore, firefighters and boats are ready in the district, following the weather conditions such as lightning and dark clouds reported at the location,” he told Bernama today.

Norazam also said that the Sungai Lui water level had returned to normal, but the fire department always monitored the situation.

Yesterday, several pictures and video recordings related to the overflowed Sungai Lui, and residents were said to be on high alert for fear of a recurrence of flooding.

Meanwhile, commenting on the floods in Kajang, Norazam said that they had received an emergency call at 5.35 pm from a member of the public, informing them that there was an overflow of water from a nearby pond as well as clogged drains, causing flash flooding in the Taman Lembah Mewah housing area, and in Jalan Semenyih.

He said the incidents at the two locations did not cause any casualties, and the floods had fully receded by about 7 pm today.

“No serious damage was reported by the firefighters on duty, and no evacuation of residents was done in the two areas,” he said.

Today, several videos lasting between 10 and 15 seconds went viral on social media showing flash floods in the said localities.
