Selangor introduces digital education initiatives during pandemic – MB

SHAH ALAM, Dec 30 — The state government has introduced two digitalisation initiatives for the education sector, to facilitate the learning process which has been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the Selangor Tutor e-learning programme started when the first movement control order (MCO) was enforced last year, which was followed by the Selangor Internet Data programme.

“These initiatives are targeted at the B40 and M40 groups, to aid them by providing affordable mobile internet connection that is packaged with a productive learning solution.

“It also increases access to online educational resources, as one of the new norms in the education sector,” he said.

Amirudin, who is also the chairman of the Selangor Foundation Board of Trustees, was speaking at the officiation of the Selangor Foundation Education Excellence Awards 2019/2020 that was held online earlier today.

He also congratulated Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2020 candidates sponsored by the foundation, who managed to obtain excellent results despite the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Although facing various learning constraints due to the pandemic, they are still able to fight it, adapt to the crisis, and achieve excellence.

“This proves the students have a high fighting spirit, which is an essential characteristic they need in facing future struggles,” Amirudin added.

In March last year, the state government implemented the Selangor Tutor e-learning programme during the MCO, which was met with an encouraging public response.

On August 4 this year, the Menteri Besar announced that 70,000 people in the state will enjoy free SIM cards and internet data for 12 months, with an allocation of RM17.5 million.
