KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 — The sixth edition of the Malaysia Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards (Top ECM) 2021 has broken its previous record during its 14-day online sales contest that generated RM47 million in sales with 358,609 orders received.

Selangor state executive councillor for industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said this is a record-breaking figure since the Top ECM was launched in 2015.

“This (RM47 million in sales with 358,609 orders) is a 28 per cent increase from last year’s sales at RM36.6 million and 264,284 orders.

“This has also surpassed the initial target of RM40 million in sales and has definitely demonstrated the strong growth of e-commerce in Malaysia of around 30 per cent to 40 per cent in the past one year,” said Teng in his opening speech at the Top ECM 2021 Awards Ceremony here today.

He said this year’s edition of the Top ECM saw 213 merchants applying for this one and only e-commerce competition in Malaysia and 181 were qualified to participate in the competition.

“Since the first awards in 2016, Top CM has typically received between 100 to 125 entries. This year’s number of submissions is a 31.5 per cent increase from the previous year’s records with 162 submissions and 123 out of the total submissions shortlisted.

“I am glad to see that many merchants are taking up all available opportunities to level up their businesses and come back stronger through the many initiatives provided by the state government,” he said.

He said most participants for the award come from the Klang Valley, with 56.4 per cent coming from Kuala Lumpur, followed by 31.5 per cent from Selangor and thus showcasing how the award caters to national level participants.

The Top ECM is organised by Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).

It features four award categories: the Top E-Commerce Merchant Awards, Online 100 & Brands 100 Merchant Awards, Selangor E-Bazar Merchant Awards, and the Affin Bank Rising Star Awards.

This year’s Top ECM offers RM40,500 worth of cash prizes and other attractive accolades. The main three winners would participate in the event’s first-ever Livestream Marathon on December 12 as part of their reward.

Each winner will be given one hour to live stream their products or services on Sidec’s Facebook page, with the live streaming costs fully sponsored by Sidec.
