Seldec looks to expand trader participation in next half-decade

SHAH ALAM, Dec 7 — The Selangor Digital e-Supply Chain (Seldec) programme aims to encourage approximately 10,000 small and micro traders to participate in the next five years.

Its business development general manager Md Fauzan Elham said efforts to realise this are being intensified in conjunction with local councils (PBTs) and other related agencies.

He said the agencies involved include the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, Hijrah Selangor, and the entrepreneurs’ association, to give a briefing on digital marketing.

“For this year alone, we have set a target of 2,000 entrepreneurs with 1,200 thus far having been registered,” Fauzan said, during the Entrepreneurs Towards Digitalisation Through Seldec e-Commerce programme held in conjunction with the 2021 Selangor Book Fair, at the Shah Alam Convention Center here yesterday.

He added the programme with the PBTs ahead of Ramadan next year will include training on the use of digital applications and the registration of entrepreneurs.

Fauzan said the local councils involved include the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang), the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), and the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS).

“The program at MBSJ and MPKS last Ramadan had encouraging responses, so we decided to continue next year on the instructions of YB (Rodziah Ismail), with the addition of several local councils.

“Almost daily we go down to the local authority area to teach the entrepreneurs, and hopefully succeed as the current constraint is to enrol them,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fauzan acknowledged the difficulty in attracting rural entrepreneurs to join Seldec due to a lack of awareness and guidance.

” We just need their cooperation to participate in this programme voluntarily because the platform is already provided,” he said.

Fauzan also suggested that local authorities make it compulsory for traders to take a Seldec Kitchen (Dapur Seldec) license, as a condition to trade in the Ramadan bazaar.

“If successful, we can market this programme. Currently, the problem is that older traders are not skilled in using applications for ordering and packaging, even though it is actually easy,” he said.

Seldec was launched on October 3, 2019, to market agricultural produce, small entrepreneur products, and wet goods to help traders increase their revenue through online sales.

Seldec, led by Selangor Industrial Corporation Sdn Bhd, connects buyers and sellers directly through the link www.seldec.com.my/en.
