State government remains proactive in doing its part to curb pandemic, says MB

SHAH ALAM, Dec 6 — Over 177,000 individuals have benefited from the free Covid-19 screening programme by the state government to curb the spread of the pandemic, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said 60,000 self-test kits have also been contributed to Covid-19 victims, aimed at easing the families of patients in monitoring themselves.

“Other states wait for the Health Ministry to conduct screening, but we do it ourselves. They wait for the vaccine, but we buy it ourselves to ensure Selangorians are quickly inoculated.

“In nearly two years we succeeded in opposing Covid-19 with our own methods and ways. This is no small matter,” Amirudin said in his speech at PKR Selangor’s Deepavali dan Christmas celebrations yesterday night. Also in attendance at the event was party vice-president Tian Chua, and state deputy chairman Hee Loy Sian.

He said the state government prepared five economic stimulus packages worth over RM1.1 billion, to aid the people affected by the pandemic.

In March 2020, Amirudin announced the Selangor Prihatin Economic Stimulus Package worth RM127.78 million for frontliners, traders, and students.

The second phase on April 1 involved RM272 million and is aimed at handling the pandemic’s impact, followed by the Economic Recovery Plan worth RM55.8 on July 13.

On January 20 this year, the Kita Selangor Package worth RM73.8 million was introduced to alleviate the burden of the people in facing the movement control order 2.0.

It was announced again on June 9, with a value of RM551.6 million, aimed at aiding low-income groups, students, small entrepreneurs, farmers, and tourism operators.
