State govt deploys immediate assistance to flood victims

SHAH ALAM, Dec 18 — The Selangor government has deployed all related agencies to assist residents who were affected by the flash floods following a heavy downpour since yesterday.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said emergency assistance will be given immediately to the victims through a collaboration with the local councils as well as the Land and District Office.

“As of now, a total of 33 temporary relief centres (PPS) have been opened in Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang.

“The state government is mobilising related agencies to help evacuate the victims as well as to give immediate help,” he said on Facebook, today.

The Menteri Besar also shared a list of emergency contact numbers for Klang folks.

Meanwhile, data from the Selangor Disaster Management Unit showed that some 1,521 victims from 140 families who were affected by the floods have been relocated to 33 PPS in three districts as of 12 noon today.

However, the actual number may be higher as several PPS have yet to update their latest statistics.

Out of the 1,521 victims, 1,098 were transferred to PPS in Klang while the remainder were in Kuala Langat.
