SHAH ALAM, Jan 29 — The Selangor Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation (Pekawanis) has allocated RM196,000 to 49 state constituencies, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.

Its president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhammad said each constituency will distribute RM100 in cash contributions to 30 individuals, with the remainder to be used to organise programmes or to purchase necessities for recipients.

“Individuals who will receive aid include single mothers, senior citizens, and those from the low-income groups (B40).

“The distributions began last week and is expected to conclude by the end of this month. Among the constituencies which received the contributions include Sungai Tua, Lembah Jaya, and Gombak Setia,” she told SelangorKini.

Masdiana added she hopes the contributions will help to lighten the burden of its recipients, particularly those who are about to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities.

Last year Pekawanis organised a variety of programmes, including the handover of learning equipment to the kindergartens of Selangor’s Covid-19 frontliners in November, and tadabbur al-Qu’ran books.

The organisation also augmented its structure by forming five bureaus to encourage members’ participation in festive and cultural programmes, health, environmental sustainability, education, spirituality, sports, recreation, and the media.
