CNY 2022: List of controlled goods to be decided soon — Exco

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Jan 25 — The list of items included in the Chinese New Year ‘Maximum Price Scheme’ for Selangor this year will be decided soon, says state executive councillor for consumer affairs Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

He said a discussion with the Selangor Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) will be held tomorrow to decide on the matters.

“As usual, whenever the festive season such as Chinese New Year approaches, KPDNHEP will implement the maximum price scheme towards controlled goods, including chicken eggs and other items.

“Tomorrow I will be meeting with the ministry before we can announce what are the goods included in the controlled scheme,” Mohd Zawawi said, after handing over some donations to small traders at Wisma KoHijrah Berjaya Park, here today.

He also advised traders to cooperate with the authorities throughout the scheme’s enforcement period by not raising prices arbitrarily, to avoid fears among the buyers.

Mohd Zawawi admitted that amid difficulties faced by the people, affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and floods, there has been a slight increase in the price of wet goods in the market recently based on complaints from the public.

“Through casual chats and non-official complaints, many people said they feel burdened with the price hikes. We urge traders to cooperate by offering the best and reasonable prices to the customer,” he said.
