Covid-19: Nearly 3,000 new cases reported today — Health D-G

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 — A total of 2,842 new Covid-19 cases were reported today, bringing the total cases in the country to 2,769,886 cases as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the majority of the cases were category one and two and only 47 cases were category three, four and five.

“There are 252 cases requiring intensive care treatment while 134 cases require respiratory support,” he said in a statement regarding Covid-19 developments today.

Dr Noor Hisham also said there were 2,862 recoveries today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,698,613 cases.

Two new clusters were also identified, bringing the current number of active clusters to 200, while the national infectivity rate (Rt) was 0.99 yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham also informed that there were 465 Covid-19 cases among flood evacuees with an additional four new cases as of 3 pm.

He added that out of the 135 infectious disease cases found among flood evacuees, 102 of them were acute respiratory infection cases, skin disease (28) and acute gastroenteritis (five).
