Covid-19: New cases drop to 3,346 on Friday

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 — The number of new Covid-19 daily cases dropped to 3,346 today compared to 3,684 yesterday, taking the cumulative total of infections in the country to 2,802,263 as of noon today.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were also 3,052 recoveries today, taking the cumulative number of recovered cases to 2,729,943.

“Of the 3,346 daily cases today, 3,297 cases (98.5 per cent) were in categories one and two while 49 cases (1.5 per cent) were in categories three, four and five.

“A total of 204 patients were treated in the intensive care unit (ICU), with 95 of them requiring respiratory assistance,” he said in a statement today.

He said three new clusters were also identified today, taking the number of active clusters to 172, while the country recorded an infectivity rate (Rt) of 1.00 yesterday.

Dr Noor Hisham also said that one new Covid-19 positive case was recorded among flood victims today, taking the total number of positive cases among them to 471.

He said the Ministry of Health also detected one case of infectious diseases (skin disease) involving flood victims.

“The total number of Covid-19 clusters in temporary relief centres remained at one as no new clusters were detected today,” he said.
