SUBANG JAYA, Jan 27 — Selangor is to be the host of the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) 2022 for the first time, which will take place at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam, from February 15 to February 20.
State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman said the prestigious tournament will be coordinated by the Selangor State Sports Council, in cooperation with Badminton Asia and the Malaysian Badminton Association (BAM)
“Selangor is ready to play the host, which is in line with the Selangor Bangkit theme introduced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“We are taking a courageous step by cooperating with BAM and Badminton Asia to ensure the sports industry rises again, after the uncertainty of the Sukan Malaysia (Sukma) Games, and other sports,” he said during a press conference earlier today.
Mohd Khairuddin added that to date, eight countries including Malaysia have confirmed their participation, such as Korea, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Kazakhstan.
“In addition, we have also discussed with the Health Ministry on the standard operating procedures for players, starting with their arrival at the airport, to the hotel, and then to the match location.
“On the attendance of spectators, we are still negotiating and hope the ministry will consider it, since the championship will take place in a large area,” he said.
