Fireman injured while dousing blaze at factory

SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 — A fireman was injured after a concrete cement fell on him during an operation to put out a fire at a lighter factory in Section 22, here yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said the fireman, Yunuslie Julies, 28, sustained an injury around his neck in the incident which occurred at 4.45pm.

“During the operation, Yunuslie was on the ground level when a concrete cement the size of two bricks fell on his headgear.

“The medical officers on-standby gave immediate treatment before he was sent to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for further treatment. He was still conscious after the incident,” said Norazam in a statement.

Meanwhile, Norazam said 70 per cent of the three-storey factory was destroyed after it caught fire at about 3pm.

“A total of 26 firemen including officers from the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station went to the location after receiving a distress call at 3.15pm.

“No casualties were reported and further investigation will be conducted to find the cause and calculate the loss,” he said.
