First phase of flood aid distribution in Dengkil to complete Tuesday

BANTING, Jan 1 — The distribution of the RM1,000 financial aid to some 5,000 flood victims in Dengkil is expected to be complete by Tuesday (January 4).

Its coordinating officer Hamidi A Hassan said 700 affected families who were transferred to temporary relief centres (PPS) have received the aid under the Selangor Bangkit initiative on Thursday.

“The aid is disbursed in three phases, benefitting almost 5,000 flood-hit families. On Thursday (December 30), the first phase was carried out based on the data at the PPS.

“The second phase will focus on flood victims who were not relocated to PPS and the third phase is for other related cases. We are receiving a high number of requests and the verification process is being done by the head of the villages and the community service centre office,” he said when met after handing over the home appliances to 237 flood victims at Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tadom, here yesterday.

On December 21, the Selangor government announced a total allocation of RM100 million in funds under the Selangor Bangkit initiative, following major flooding in the state in mid-December.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also includes RM10,000 in aid to the next of kin of those who have perished.

A RM1,000 cash aid will be distributed to the heads of families to help restore their homes. This initiative will benefit some 30,000 families hit by the floods.
