Flood victims receive counselling to overcome post-flood trauma

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Jan 20 — A counselling programme to help flood victims deal with their post-disaster trauma will be among the main focus in the Dusun Tua constituency.

Its state assemblyman Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof said the effort is taken to help affected residents in Dusun Tua cope with pressures as they were emotionally distraught following the incident.

He said the programme will be carried out as soon as the cash aid handover under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) and infrastructure restoration works have been completed.

“We will try to expedite the implementation of the counselling programme to avoid flood victims being overwhelmed with fear.

“Some of them have started receiving psychiatric treatment at the hospital as they were traumatised, having sleep difficulties and the thought of flood recurrence keeps coming and haunts them. After this, we will focus on taking care of their emotions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Edry added that over 4,500 flood victims in his constituency have received the cash aid of RM1,000 and the remaining will be distributed before the end of this month.

“Not many recipients will be involved in the second phase, we estimated around 100 individuals only. Hopefully, the aid would be able to reduce their burden,” he said.

Dusun Tua was among the badly-hit locations following the floods incident last year other than Taman Seri Muda in Shah Alam and Bukit Lanchong in Subang.
