KLANG, Jan 16 — As Thaipusam is drawing near, preparations for the festive season is in full force in Little India at Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang.
Checks by SelangorKini found that some of the essential items high in demand include herbs, camphor, turmeric, milk, clay pots and nuts. Clothing and accessories were also a favourite among the shoppers.
Herbal trader Ravi Muthupillay, 62, said in the last three days, his shop had received a high number of customers, especially small traders looking for herbs in large quantities.
“Many of the customers are small traders looking for items for their businesses. The response was good but not as compared to the previous years before Covid-19 hit the country,
“We are still tied to the standard operating procedures (SOP), so sales is a bit slow,” said Ravi, who has run the business in the past three decades.
Meanwhile, fashion accessory seller Kavitha Murugasan, 50, said items such as bangles, necklaces and earrings were selling like hotcakes at her three-unit shop due to the slash in prices offered since early of the month.
“Discounts of up to 10 to 20 per cent are available on the accessories in conjunction with the wedding and festive seasons until April. The items are priced at as low as RM5.
“We have received many customers, but at the same time, we still adhere to the SOPs and only allow a limited number of visitors to enter the premise at one time,” she said.
