Moderate earthquake hits Java, Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit Java, Indonesia, at 8.26am today.

According to a statement from the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the quake was located 160km southwest from Sukabumi, Indonesia, at a depth of 78km.

However, it did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia, the statement said.
