SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — A total of 908 houses that were affected due to the state-wide flooding disaster last month have since been identified, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said of the total, 32 houses were deemed to have been destroyed in the floods and need to be rebuilt, while 876 houses will be undergoing restoration.

“State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail has been appointed as the focal person to monitor the progress, whereby she will conduct site visits and observe the houses’ conditions before determining if the homeowners require assistance.

“The Federal government has also announced several assistance programmes pertaining to the matter, and the state government will coordinate accordingly.

“Apart from that, the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has also agreed to bear the cost of rebuilding the 32 houses belonging to flood victims in Hulu Langat,” Amirudin said at a press conference on the latest post-flood update, in the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting room at the Selangor State Secretariat Building earlier today.

He added that since the house restoration process is divided into several categories, Rodziah will also monitor each category so the state government can determine the total costs needed for the purpose.

In a related development, the Menteri Besar said a total of 1,407 electrical substations affected by the floods have since been restored by Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

“Similarly some 367 telecommunication towers which were damaged due to the flooding have also been restored,” Amirudin said.
