Over 1,000 Port Klang flood victims receive cash aid from Selangor, Federal govt

KLANG, Jan 12 — A total of 1,500 flood victims in the Port Klang constituency have received the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) and Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) financial aid today, said its assemblyman Azmizam Zamanhuri.

Of this number, he said 70 per cent reside in Pulau Indah, while the rest are from Teluk Gong, which was among the earliest locations hit by the December floods.

Azmizam said the victims had received RM1,000 cash aid under the BSB programme and an equal amount from BWI.

“Even though the amount received is smaller than the victims’ losses, we hope that it will ease their burdens after last month’s flooding disaster,” he said.

On December 21 last year, the state government allocated RM100 million in funds under the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit initiative due to the recent heavy floods caused by heavy continuous rain from December 17 to December 19.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also covers RM10,000 cash aid to the families of flood victims who perished in the incident.

RM1,000 cash aid will also be provided to the heads of flood victims’ families to help them restore their homes and cover damages.

Individuals who qualify for the aid include three categories; flood victims who were relocated to temporary relief centres, those who moved to private locations, and those who chose to remain at their homes.

The aid began distribution on December 28, 2021, and is expected to be completed by the end of January this year.
