Over 20,000 flood victims receive cash aid from Selangor Zakat Board

SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — A total of 22,500 flood victims in Selangor have received the RM600 flood aid from Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) as of December 31, 2021.

Its chief executive officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said the LZSPeduli flood aid was disbursed in stages from December 28 through direct bank-in to the recipients’ account, to help reduce flood victims’ burden.

“All of the recipients are from the first phase of applications. The total applications that we have received until December 31 were about 35,000.

“However, 18 per cent of the applications were declined due to incomplete documents. Currently, the second phase of the application is open until the end of this month,” he told SelangorKini.

Saipolyazan said LZS had also allocated funds for post-flood donations to the poor and asnaf groups who suffered damages to their houses due to the floods.

On December 20, he announced RM600 cash aid to the head of poor families, including those who are not categorised as asnaf, that were affected by the floods in Selangor, involving a zakat allocation of RM1 million.

To coordinate the aid, LZS has collected the family’s head data in collaboration with the District Disaster Committee.

LZS has also allocated RM250,000 for the donation of dried foods and basic necessities to the temporary relief centres opened during the floods.
