Over RM100,000 spent to help flood victims in Port Klang

KLANG, Jan 13 — More than RM100,000 have been spent to help flood victims in the Port Klang constituency, says its state assemblyman Azmizam Zamanhuri.

He said this includes providing food baskets, mattresses and blankets.

“Nearly 5,000 houses in Port Klang were inundated in the floods last month, and Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), we have managed to help almost all of those affected.

“Thank you to the non-governmental organisations, private companies and individuals who were involved in distributing the donations to the flood victims in Port Klang,” he said when met, yesterday.

Azmizam said anyone who wishes to lend a helping hand could meet with the victims directly without going through his office.

“As for flood victims who need help, they can come over to the Port Klang community service centre, and we will facilitate them throughout the process,” he said.

Meanwhile, Azmizam had urged the public not to take advantage of the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit initiative, especially those not affected by the flooding.

Azmizam had raised the matter after the Klang District and Land Office received suspicious applications from several individuals.

“There are a group of applicants trying to take advantage of the situation and had submitted incomplete and dubious forms.

“However, the district office will conduct an immediate review to ensure only those who are eligible would receive the assistance,” he said.

Azmizam had also stressed that the public should be more responsible and not take other people’s rights.

“We received several applications from individuals whose homes were flooded only at the compound area or at ankle-level high. I urge that these people to not apply for the assistance as this would not be fair to those who were badly affected by the flooding,” he said.
