SHAH ALAM, Jan 7 — The State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) has approved an allocation of more than RM40 million for immediate post-flood repairs and infrastructural works, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Out of the total, RM31.7 million has been allocated to the Selangor Public Works Department for critical projects which needed urgent restoration.

“The critical projects include the cliff slope clearance process along Jalan Peras in Kuala Kelawang, Jalan Sungai Lui in Sungai Lalang, Jalan Ladang Caledonia in Batu Arang, as well as Jalan Selayang in Kepong.

“The allocation will also be used for the replacement of the Sungai Jenderam bridge and for road restorations in Jalan Sungai Lui and Bukit Peras,” he said at a press conference on the post-flood latest update, in the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting room at the Selangor State Secretariat Building earlier today.

Amirudin added that an additional RM9.18 million allocation has been approved for 13 projects related to the improvement of river banks, under the purview of the Selangor Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID).

“The allocation will be utilised for the river banks’ strengthening works, the construction of river bunds, and the construction of Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s platform.

“Aside from that, the money will also be used for purchasing mobile gensets, as well as for the improvement of flood warning systems at selected hotspots.

“The approval by MMKN is for the ongoing works and upcoming restoration works, which will commence within a month,” he added.

The torrential rain from December 17 until December 19 last year resulted in double the rainfall compared to the previous high of 180 millimetres, causing severe flooding in several locations of Selangor.

A total of 47,762 people from 11,273 families were affected by the flooding, with some 272 temporary relief centres opened during the evacuation process.
