PKPS continues to lead in state’s food security — MB

SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 —  The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) continues to take the lead in securing the state’s food supply with 50 years of experience under its belt.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said food security has become more crucial since the Covid-19 pandemic had hit the global community two years ago.

He said PKPS has evolved from a palm plantation organisation to a smart farming system exploring modern farming.

“I have been emphasising the need to adapt and continue to be resilient and agile in facing current trends in the world.

“The pandemic that struck the world has made us more aware of the importance of food security,” he said on Facebook yesterday.

Amirudin had also congratulated PKPS on their recent gold jubilee celebration, which became a significant historic event to the agricultural industry, particularly farmers and small traders.

PKPS was established on January 2, 1972, replacing the Selangor State Paddy Loan Board to develop the plantation industry and socio-economy and implement commercial projects for the benefit of the people.

After 50 years, the agency is making strides towards modern agriculture by leveraging existing land using new technologies and helping to develop agricultural entrepreneurs.
