Post-flood: Selangor Zakat Board to rebuild 32 houses, costs RM93,000 each

SHAH ALAM, Jan 12 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) will rebuild 32 houses belonging to the asnaf group and bear the repair cost for 150 homes affected during the flooding last month.

Its chief executive officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said the construction cost for each house is estimated at RM93,000 while the maximum cost for repair works is RM31,500, depending on the severity of damages.

He said the reconstruction and restoration works would start in February after the census and eligibility review process have been concluded.

“In the meantime, the affected victims live in rented houses with the rental fully borne by LZS to ensure they can continue their daily lives until the reconstruction and restoration works have been completed.

“Insya-Allah (God willing), the programme will be continued until the end of the year. We are working with the state government and the disaster committee to trace those who are in need,” he said when met after viewing the census and eligibility review process at Kampung Bukit Lanchong, here.

Commenting on the flood-affected houses in Kampung Bukit Lanchong, Saipolyazan said 75 homes have been identified by the assistant amil kariah (zakat collectors) with 25 units belonging to the asnaf group, and the remaining are non-asnaf.

“This programme acts as a two-pronged approach so that the non-asnaf families would be included in the census.

“The eligible families will be registered as asnaf should they meet the requirements and the kifayah limit. If not, we will hand over their information to other agencies for further action,” he said.
