SHAH ALAM, Jan 4 — The post-flood cleanup works in all flood-affected areas are expected to be completed before Friday, says KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM).

Its managing director Ramli Mohd Tahir said the cleanup process is nearing 90 per cent and flood waste collection at several local councils areas namely in Sepang and Kuala Selangor have already been completed.

“InsyaAllah (God willing). The cleanup process will be completed before Friday and hopefully, the weather is good and there is no rain.

“If it rain, things will get difficult and it will slow down the garbage collection work including the risk of the waste being pushed by flowing waters into the ditches or drains,” he told SelangorKini.

He said after 12 days in operation, a total of 40,000 tonnes of flood waste have been collected in all flood-affected areas, as of yesterday.

“Apart from that, over 1,200 cleaning crews were involved in the process and they worked until night. Workers in areas that have been completed will be deployed to help in other areas. This would expedite the recovery efforts,” he said.

The state-owned solid waste management company has been involved in the cleanup process in several districts in Selangor since December 19.

KDEBWM also received assistance from volunteers and local authorities, including from other states, to expedite the cleanup process.
