SHAH ALAM, Jan 17 — A total of 450 shopping vouchers are being distributed to the Tiong Hua community around Rawang in conjunction with the Chinese New Year which will be celebrated early next month.

Its state assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the Jom Shopping vouchers worth RM100 that are being distributed starting today will help its recipients from low-income families (B40) in their preparation to celebrate the festival.

“The distribution of the vouchers will run for a week at the community service centre (PKM). Once received, the recipients can use it to shop at the NSK Rawang supermarket.

“This assistance will definitely ease the burden of the community, but it is hoped that it will be well utilised as the prices of festive items such as oranges have increased sharply this year,” he told SelangorKini.

He also advised the public to be vigilant when celebrating the festival as well as to adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP) as the country is still struggling with the Covid-19 threat.

“Don’t forget the SOP, especially when returning to your hometown or visiting parents and relatives. They need to think about the safety and health of themselves and their loved ones,” he said.

Jom Shopping Raya was introduced by the state government for the B40 group, to serve as a long-term initiative in ensuring the welfare and prosperity of the people.

Aid handover is conducted according to the main components of the respective races and festivals.
