State aid reaches over 34,000 families, total RM34 mln spent — MB

SHAH ALAM, Jan 16 — A total of 34,215 families affected by the December floods last year in Selangor have received the state government’s RM1,000 cash aid as of 10am today.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said RM34.323 million has been spent for the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) initiaitve.

In an infographic shared on his Facebook today, the next-of-kin of 12 people who perished in the floods in Klang, Sepang, Hulu Langat, and Kuala Langat had received RM10,000 each.

As for the RM1,000 financial assistance, Petaling has recorded the highest number of recipients with 11,236 households, followed by Klang (7,376) and Hulu Langat (6,846).

Similarly, 3,966 recipients were situated in Sepang, followed by (3,966), Kuala Langat (1,890), Kuala Selangor (1,869), Gombak (892), Hulu Selangor (93) and Sabak Bernam (35).

On December 21 last year, the state government had announced the RM100 million in allocation under BSB to help families hit by heavy floods caused by continuous torrential rain from December 17 to December 19.

Apart from infrastructural recovery, the initiative also covers RM10,000 cash aid to the families of flood victims who perished in the incident. RM1,000 cash is also provided to the heads of flood victims’ families to help them restore their homes and cover the damages sustained from the incident.

The aid distribution began on December 28, 2021, and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
