SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — Team Selangor volunteers have collected a total of 2,719 kilogrammes of trash from 14 hot spots in the state, last year.
Its secretariat chief Syahaizel Keman said as part of its environment conservation initiative, the waste collected include some 1,122 kilogrammes of plastic, 1,320 kilogrammes of paper, 155 kilogrammes of aluminium and 122 kilogrammes of glass.
“The waste collection activities were held from September 18 until December 4 last year, and throughout the duration, we had also collected 188 pieces of used face masks that were littered.
“The activities were carried out in several locations including Semenyih, Batang Kali, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Jeram, Kuang and Sungai Tua with a total workforce of 1,112 volunteers,” he said.
On October 3, 2021, the volunteering group had kicked off the waste collection (gotong-royong) programme at Pantai Remis in Kuala Selangor to create more awareness on the importance of conserving a sustainable environment.
