65,000 viewers watch virtual CNY celebration

SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The 2022 Selangor Chinese New Year virtual celebration last night recorded 65,000 spectators.

The programme that was broadcast live on the Facebook page of state leaders and Media Selangor was lively and featured multi-racial cultural performances, said Selangor Buddhist and Taoist special committee chairman Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

“The programme this time was so colourful. I am happy to watch all the multi-cultural and multi-racial performances plus in achieving a high number of viewers.

“Despite being allowed to travel interstate and meet their relatives, many still give their support by watching this programme and entering the contest to win the ang pows,” he said.

The more than 90-minutes programme showcased 10 performances that include singing, dancing and cultural performances, performed by 55 local artists from three-generation, that cost RM500,000.

Lucky spectators also get a chance to win ang pows worth between RM38 (200 ang pows), RM68 (20 ang pows), RM188 (four ang pows) and RM288 (one ang pow), with a grand total worth of RM10,000.

The ang pows draw was held on the 35th, 51st and 60th minutes and after the live broadcast ended, the list of winners will be announced soon.

Similar to last year’s edition, this year’s Selangor CNY celebration was held online due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

2. Lion Dance by the Hong Jing Lion Dance Association of Selangor

4. Acapella Performance of Festive Songs by Colour of Voices
5. Guzheng (plucked zither) Performance by Sara Heng.
6. Chinese Drums Performance by Hands Percussion
7. Electronic Guzheng and LED Diabolo Performance by Sara Heng and the DiAbolution group
8. Performance by Lim Wen Sue
9. Performance by Gaston Pong & JE Pong
10. Gong Xi Gong Xi – Selangor Exco
