BATC 2022: Siti Nurshuhaini ready to face India

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Feb 16 — Siti Nurshuhaini Azman is ready to be fielded as the singles ace player against India in the second group stage of the 2022 Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) this evening.

The 18-year-old third singles shuttler is determined to show her best performance as she did yesterday when beating Japan’s Hina Akechi 21-16, 22-20.

“If I am fielded as the first singles shuttler, Insya Allah (God willing) I am ready to shoulder that responsibility.

“Tomorrow’s (today’s) match against India might be easier than Japan, but I still have to do my best by changing the gameplay and improving my defending on the court,” she said when met by reporters at the Setia City Convention Centre here.

Commenting on the first match yesterday, the player ranked 311 in the world admitted that she was under pressure after the country’s two women’s singles players lost to their respective opponents.

However, Nurshuhaini, who hails from Rawang, Selangor, refused to bow down to the pressure to find the first point for the country.

“There was a bit (of fear), but I tried to win each point. Although in the second round my points was a bit behind, I continue to fight and use all (the strategies) available,” she said.
